WACKER offers the paints and coatings industry a proven portfolio of highly specialized fine chemicals. Among these are acetylacetone, which works as a pot-life extender for epoxy and polyurethane coatings and 3,5-dimethylpyrazole, which is a blocking agent for isocyanates and has relatively low VOC-levels.

Extending the Pot Life of Epoxy and Polyurethane Coatings

Acetylacetone is a fine chemical that can be used as a pot-life extender for epoxy and polyurethane coatings. It allows the components to be mixed together and extends the time to cure. Acetylacetone also prolongs the time that a mixed coating system maintains at low viscosity, letting it be applied to a surface.

Low VOC Blocking Agent for Isocyanate Polymers

3,5-dimethylpyrazole is colorless and used in the synthesis of blocked isocyanates. It deactivates the isocyanate functionality allowing for isocyanate-based one-pack systems and waterborne coatings enabling improved handling and storage. 3,5-dimethylpyrazole deblocks at lower temperatures and is a lower VOC component than other blocking agents, such as phenols and oximes.
