On January 29th, Synthomer was invited to speak at the quarterly symposium of the NVVT (Dutch Association of Paint Technicians). The symposium in Utrecht, Netherlands is a forum for professionals in paints, varnishes, inks and related products. From Synthomer, Dirk Suehling provided insight in how Synthomer enables manufacturers to create paints for biocide-free end applications.
Due to the pursuit of a more sustainable, eco-friendly solution and fulfilling the new biocide regulation restriction, current trends in the paint industry point towards a reduction of VOCs and biocide. Synthomer employs various methods during the design, manufacture, storage, and transport of the polymer binders to prevent microbiological contamination (bacteria, yeast and funghi): Among others, Dirk Suehling introduced our microbiology lab which allows for residual biocide analysis, bio-burden testing & microbial identification. He also detailed Synthomer’s ability to minimize methylisothiazolinone (MIT) without a compromise in product quality, such as by developing binders with stability in high pH environments, which microbiological lifeforms cannot thrive in. Finally, future storage and packaging options were discussed to further drive down the ecological footprint along the entire supply chain.
