New sustainable offers
For this 2023 Chinacoat edition, Arkema will showcase its new sustainable offers for the industry, providing answers to emerging markets like home efficiency, more circular housing, community well-being, decarbonization of the built environment and more.

Guided by the Group’s sustainable development strategy, Coating Solutions segment is focused on accelerating the transformation of the coating sector through four major aspects: phase out of hazardous substances, the quest for more circular raw materials, development of more efficient and sustainable technologies and the evolution of application processes toward greater industrial and energy efficiency.
Arkema is also developing it’s bio-attributed acrylic materials across the regions. These products fully adopt the “Mass Balance” approach and are produced from renewable or recycled raw materials. The Group have already obtained the recognized International Sustainability & Carbon Certification-PLUS (ISCC+) in Europe, Carling French site in 2022, and expands its certification process to China for implementation during Q1 2024. These efforts are major milestone for the Group and the Coating Solutions segment’s ongoing journey toward more circular and low carbon development.
A leading portfolio of lower VOC and lower carbon coating technologies
The company features its leading portfolio of high performance and sustainable materials, including solutions for UV/LED, waterborne, high solid technologies and high performance polymers.
Waterborne Systems
Waterborne is one of Arkema’s key low VOC technologies. The portfolio includes a variety of different forms of waterborne resins, additives and long-lasting weather-resistant PVDF emulsions. With world-renowned waterborne resin solutions, Arkema’s resin portfolio includes Encor® 2436, a styrene-acrylic emulsion specially designed for industrial coatings; Encor® 2787 CS, a pure acrylic emulsion suitable for decorative coatings; Synaqua® bio-based water-based alkyd series. Encor® and Kynar Aquatec® emulsions are also applied to “cool roofing” technologies enabling up to 30% energy savings in air conditioning. Other notable water-based products recognized for their high-performance and sustainability that are widely adopted in construction, building materials, industry, adhesives and other fields include the Coapur™ series of polyurethane thickeners that are based on bio-based materials; the Ecodis™ MB and Rheotech™ MB series of dispersing agent and acrylic thickeners.
UV/LED/EB Systems
Arkema’s UV/LED/EB light-curing formulation solution offers low VOC and energy efficiency. The products also maintain coatings’ overall aesthetic appearance through superior mechanical and weather-resistant properties. Arkema’s Sartomer® specialty acrylic resins are widely used in UV/LED/EB systems. The broad product categories offer maximum flexibility when designing formulars and are widely used in various fields including 3C coatings, automotive interior and exterior coatings, UV inkjet, solder mask inks, optical film coatings, photoresists and offset inks. The Arkema’s specialty UV/LED curing resins’ capacity expansion in China will support the development of more sustainable solutions for fast-growing applications in Asian markets, such as cutting-edge solutions in electronics, driven by 5G technology, and in renewable energies.
Powder Coatings
Arkema’s powder coatings, a more sustainable technology with Near zero VOCs and HAPs, no solvent and no waste, cover the majority of today’s technologies on the market, including thermosetting and thermoplastic systems as well as surface modifiers and leveling agents. They are also widely adopted in general industry, home appliances construction, home furnishing, and aviation. Among Arkema’s many offerings are Orgasol®, the nylon ultra-fine powder. It has a uniform spherical appearance and porous structure, which can reduce the gloss of the paint film and improve wear resistance. Arkema also offers the Reafree® powder coatings resins enabling super durable solutions with lower carbon application through low temperature cure technologies.
High-solids Systems
For high-solid systems, Arkema is targeting always more performing, lower VOC solutions, with the development of a series of resin and additive products to solve the various challenges brought on by the new system. Among them, Synocure® 854 BA 80 MY High-Solids Hydroxy Acrylic Resin with low NCO requirements and superior weather-resistance is suitable for economical heavy-duty anti-corrosive topcoats with ultra-low VOC requirements; Crayvallac® Optima polyamide wax powder has 92% bio-based content. It is especially well-suited for high-solids coatings due to its excellent anti-settling and anti-sag properties, storage stability, and broad applicability.
